EDMONTON, ALBERTA, June 16, 2020 – After a lengthy process Dr. Jim Asuchak, OD, Chair of the Council for Healthy Eyes Canada (CHEC) is pleased to announce the election of Mark Eltis and Jeff Goodhew to the Board of Directors.

“Both Drs. Eltis and Goodhew are practicing Optometrists in Ontario who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in Board governance, marketing and communications”, said Dr. Asuchak. “Their business acumen will serve CHEC well is we seek to expand the highly successful integrated marketing, communications and data collection campaign known simply by its acronym, TAYE, to the benefit of all Canadians” added Dr. Asuchak.

First piloted in Alberta in 2018 the TAYE campaign is a collaborative effort with the goal of building the awareness that Canadians have about their eye health and vision. In 2019 the effort expanded throughout Western Canada and is correlated to meaningfully supporting Canadians, young and old, in obtaining timely comprehensive eye exams.

After practicing on Canada's east and west coasts but now in the nation’s capital, the CHEC Board is pleased to share that Dr. Shawn Charland has agreed to join the Board’s Advisory Committee. Dr. Charland was President of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists in 2006-2007 and was the optometry representative on the Cataract Wait Time Committee for the Champlain LHIN.
