Dr. Eltis provides comprehensive eye exams to patients of all ages employing the most advanced technology available. Patients are offered Optomap wide field imaging of the back of their eye (retina) and high definition retinal photography.

The clinic employs the Triton Swept Source OCT which is the most advanced eye scanner of its kind (third generation optical coherence tomography). OCTs are used  in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, macular and  retinal disease. They can also be used to fit specialty contact lenses such as scleral lenses.

The facility is also equipped  with Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT)  imaging. This advanced scanner offers three dimensional views of the optic nerve which can be helpful to detect serious conditions such as increased intracranial pressure, brain tumors and multiple sclerosis. HRT is more commonly used  for glaucoma diagnosis and  progression analysis in combination with OCT. Using two independent scanners  provides  more conclusive information.

OCT and HRT work in concert with our user friendly Heidelberg Visual Field machine which is like a video game to check your peripheral vision. It is used both for general screenings at full eye exams and for monitoring of glaucoma and other retinal disease. The clinic recently acquired a second visual field machine with the most advanced glaucoma testing pattern available (24-2C): the Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer 3. This reduces testing time and decreases the number of visits needed to monitor changes. It also minimizes the amount of time spent in the office as two visual field machines are serving patents simultaneously.

Ultrasound (or corneal pachymetry) is  available  in house and is quick and comfortable. It is used to detect corneal diseases such as keratoconus, check for refractive surgery (Lasik, PRK, ICL) eligibility and discover potential genetic risk for glaucoma.

Many patients wonder why so many tests are necessary for glaucoma diagnosis and management. The truth is that despite great leaps in technology there is no perfect "yes or no" test for the disease. Creating a baseline and gathering data at regular intervals allows us to make better decisions and prevent irreversible vision loss. Glaucoma is not a disease you can generally feel or see but is very treatable if detected early.

Advanced tear osmolarity testing via I-Pen is employed to precisely determine and monitor dry eye.

In office treatments for dry eye and associated  blepharitis (inflammation of the eye lids) as well as for meibomian gland dysfunction are offered. A relaxing spa like experience is created while applying heat and performing expression of the glands (with Mastrota Paddle and  Collins forceps), and cleaning the lid margin with the  Karpecki debrider.

Deep cleaning in office treatments for Demodex mite infestations of the lashes are also performed using Thea Labtician products from France and Zocular Zest made with natural ingredients. High quality dry eye products like Hylo artificial tears, Bruder Eye Mask, Blephadex (lid treatment for Demodex mites) and Blephaclean (wipes for blepharitis) are also conveniently sold on site.

A fully equipped optical boutique with licensed opticians, helpful staff and a wide selection of frames is located within the clinic. We carry Japanese and European handmade eyewear including Masunaga, Salt, Mykita, Barton Perreira, and Face a Face. Other popular brands include Tom Ford, Ray Ban and Maui Jim. Some prescriptions  (depending on type and availability) can be filled while you wait.

A large in-office supply of  daily contact lenses is offered for patient convenience.

Genetic testing via cheek swab for macular degeneration (the leading cause of blindness over the age of fifty) as well as vitamin supplements are available.

Most importantly, the dedication to patient care in concert with the latest technology in a distinctly Yorkville  (yet unpretentious)  atmosphere sets the office apart.
